Salt and Pepper Ribs
Ingredients
2 racks of baby back ribs
2 tablespoons coarse sea salt
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C). Prepare a large baking sheet or roasting pan by lining it with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
Start by preparing the ribs. Remove the membrane from the back of each rack of ribs by sliding a knife under the membrane and pulling it off. This will help the seasoning penetrate the meat better and make for a more tender result.
In a small bowl, combine the sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.
Brush the ribs with olive oil, making sure to coat all sides. This will help the spice mixture adhere to the meat.
Sprinkle the salt and pepper mixture over the ribs, rubbing it into the meat to ensure even coverage. Make sure to season both sides of the ribs thoroughly.
Place the seasoned ribs on the prepared baking sheet or roasting pan, bone-side down. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil, sealing it around the edges to trap steam.
Place the ribs in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The meat should be tender and easily pulled away from the bone.
Once the ribs are cooked, remove them from the oven and discard the foil. If you prefer a crispy exterior, you can brush the ribs with your favorite barbecue sauce and place them under the broiler for a few minutes until caramelized. Alternatively, you can serve them as is for a more traditional salt and pepper flavor.
Let the ribs rest for a few minutes before cutting them into individual servings. This allows the juices to redistribute and keeps the meat moist.
Serve the salt and pepper ribs with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw, cornbread, or grilled vegetables. Enjoy!
This recipe yields approximately 4 to 6 servings, depending on the size of the racks of ribs. Adjust the seasoning quantities according to your taste preferences.
