Salt and Pepper Ribs

Salt and Pepper Ribs

Ingredients

  • 2 racks of baby back ribs

  • 2 tablespoons coarse sea salt

  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C). Prepare a large baking sheet or roasting pan by lining it with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.

  • Start by preparing the ribs. Remove the membrane from the back of each rack of ribs by sliding a knife under the membrane and pulling it off. This will help the seasoning penetrate the meat better and make for a more tender result.

  • In a small bowl, combine the sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.

  • Brush the ribs with olive oil, making sure to coat all sides. This will help the spice mixture adhere to the meat.

  • Sprinkle the salt and pepper mixture over the ribs, rubbing it into the meat to ensure even coverage. Make sure to season both sides of the ribs thoroughly.

  • Place the seasoned ribs on the prepared baking sheet or roasting pan, bone-side down. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil, sealing it around the edges to trap steam.

  • Place the ribs in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The meat should be tender and easily pulled away from the bone.

  • Once the ribs are cooked, remove them from the oven and discard the foil. If you prefer a crispy exterior, you can brush the ribs with your favorite barbecue sauce and place them under the broiler for a few minutes until caramelized. Alternatively, you can serve them as is for a more traditional salt and pepper flavor.

  • Let the ribs rest for a few minutes before cutting them into individual servings. This allows the juices to redistribute and keeps the meat moist.

  • Serve the salt and pepper ribs with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw, cornbread, or grilled vegetables. Enjoy!

This recipe yields approximately 4 to 6 servings, depending on the size of the racks of ribs. Adjust the seasoning quantities according to your taste preferences.
