Privacy policy
Last updated: September 2026
This policy explains what information healthy-diabetes.com collects, why, who sees it, and the choices you have. The site is operated by Michael Hofer ("I", "me"), michael@healthy-diabetes.com. I have tried to keep it short and true. If anything here is unclear, email me.
The short version
This site asks for only your email address, and only if you subscribe or download a guide.
I do not ask for, and please do not send me, any information about your health, your diabetes, your medications, or your glucose readings.
This site has no accounts, no purchases, and no advertising. Amazon and Udemy sell books and the course under their own policies.
I never sell, rent, or trade your email address.
Every email I send has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask me to delete your data at any time.
1. What I collect and why
Information you give me
Email address, when you subscribe to the newsletter or request the Four Pillars guide or another download. I use it to send you what you asked for and, unless you unsubscribe, my occasional newsletter. Legal basis (where one is required): your consent.
Your name, email, and whatever you write when you email me, use a contact form, or send a speaking inquiry. I use it to reply. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in answering you, and, for speaking engagements, the steps needed to agree a booking.
Blog comments, if commenting is enabled on a post: your name, email, and the comment. The name and comment are public; the email is not.
Health information. This is a site about living with diabetes, and people sometimes want to share their story or their numbers. Please don't, at least not through the site. I am not a healthcare provider and do not want to hold sensitive health data about you. If you email me details about your health, I will use them only to reply and will not store them anywhere else or share them with anyone.
Information collected automatically
Usage and device data: pages visited, referring site, approximate location from your IP address, browser and device type, time and date of visits. This comes from the hosting platform's built-in analytics and Google Analytics, and I review it only in aggregate to see which pages are read.
Cookies: the hosting platform sets a small number of cookies needed for the site to function and for its analytics; Google Analytics sets its own. There are no advertising cookies, no social-media tracking pixels, and no retargeting on this site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, and the site will still work. Depending on where you are, you may also see a cookie banner where you can decline non-essential cookies.
Newsletter statistics: the email service records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, as virtually all newsletter services do. I use this to see which topics readers care about, not to profile individuals.
2. Who else sees your data
I use a few service providers who process data on my behalf under their own privacy commitments. I do not share your data with anyone else, except as required by law or, in the unlikely event the site changes hands, with a successor bound by this policy.
Squarespace hosts the site, its forms, and its analytics.
[NEWSLETTER PROVIDER] stores subscriber emails and sends the newsletter and downloads.
Google Analytics provides aggregated visitor statistics.
Google Workspace (or my email provider) handles email correspondence.
Links to Amazon, Udemy, LinkedIn, Facebook, and other sites take you away from this site. Their privacy policies, not this one, govern what happens there, including any purchases you make and any affiliate tracking. Some links are affiliate links, which means Amazon may record that you came from this site; I receive a commission but no personal information about you.
3. Where your data is stored
The providers above store data mainly in the United States. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, this means your data is transferred outside your region; the providers rely on standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for those transfers.
4. How long I keep it
Subscriber email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them. Unsubscribed addresses are removed from the active list; the provider may keep a suppression record so you are not accidentally re-added.
Email correspondence and inquiries: as long as needed to deal with your message, and generally no longer than two years.
Aggregated analytics: up to 26 months, the Google Analytics default.
5. Your rights and choices
Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email, or by emailing me.
Access, correct, or delete the personal data I hold about you by emailing michael@healthy-diabetes.com. I will respond within 30 days and will not charge for it.
Cookies: block or delete them in your browser settings, or use the cookie banner where shown.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you also have the rights to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting earlier processing), and to lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority.
If you are a resident of California or another US state with a consumer-privacy law, you have similar rights to know, delete, and correct, and the right to opt out of sale or sharing. I do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it, and I do not discriminate against anyone for exercising their rights.
6. Children
This site is written for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 (under 13 in the United States). If you believe a child has given me their email address, tell me, and I will delete it.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, the providers above maintain their own security programs, and access to subscriber data is limited to me. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so I cannot promise absolute security, but I will tell you promptly if I learn of a breach affecting your data.
8. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, I will update the date at the top and mention the change in the next newsletter. I may make minor wording updates without notice.
